Say hello to Gemma! She came to TCHS as a transfer from another facility. Due to this, we do not know much about their past. During her stay with us, we have found her to be a happy girl who loves to go out for walks. She walks wonderfully on a leash, and she's very attentive to her person when she's walking. Gemma also is a treat-motivated gal, which should make training easier. (She does know "sit.") We do know she previously lived with another dog she had done well with. It is unknown if she has met cats or children. She was briefly adopted and returned due to being nervous with neighboring children; all introductions to children must be proper and paced. Gemma, like all newly adopted pets, will need time to decompress and adjust to her new environment after adoption. Slow and proper introductions to resident pets and children are always recommended when bringing a new animal into the home. It can take weeks or months for animals to settle into their new environment, so time and patience are your best tools. It is not recommended to bring a new animal into the home and immediately introduce it to resident pets. Ask a TCHS staff for tips on how to ease the transition. Gemma would love to have durable toys to chew on and keep them entertained and regular play sessions with your new friend will help burn off energy and build a bond of trust. Patience and consistent training using treats is a good way to work on obedience commands. Gemma currently weighs about 51 pounds. This pretty lady would love to come home with you! Donations and adoption fees help cover the cost of spay/neuter surgeries, microchipping, vaccinating, de-worming, any medical procedures and general care.
