Hello, cat lovers! If you understand cats, you know that some cats require more time and much more patience to adapt to people and new situations than others. I am Ruth, a beautiful 2-1/2-year-old black female who was found on a farm with my four 2-week-old kittens in August 2022. We went to a foster home, and my kittens did quite well. I was very cautious, however, and I never warmed up to my foster mother. After 3 months, I came to the shelter and moved into a colony room in late October. For most of the next 4 months, I stayed far away from people and would not let anyone near me. Everyone just accepted me the way I was and hoped that with time I would overcome my fears. I finally started playing with the other cats when they would chase the laser light. Now I am out and about when people are around. I approach them and let them pet me, although I am still a bit wary about petting. I am a perfect example of a seemingly feral cat, who, given enough time, space, patience, and exposure to humans, finally, after 7 months, reached a point where I think humans are okay and began interacting with them. Shelter staff and volunteers are thrilled! Whoever adopts me will need to be patient and realize that it may take me a while to adapt to new situations. However, my newfound acceptance of people shows that I have the potential to become a wonderful, fun companion for a special person. My name, Ruth, means "friend," and I hope I will be someone's forever friend.
