Benji is a 4 year old Cane Corso mix who was brought to our facility in June, 2022. His previous owners had worked with a trainer who used abusive training techniques and Benji's confidence and trust in people was shattered.
DCHS staff and volunteers worked with Benji for months, but then we decided this boy needed a break from the shelter and the help of a trusted professional.
Now Benji is back after receiving extensive advanced obedience training from Jessiffany Canine Services. He has been found to be extremely gentle with his people, easy to work with once he knows you, and eager to please. While at Jessiffany, they found that in most cases Benji doesn't even require a leash to be obedient to his handler's desires.
Don't let Benji's big bark and piercing eyes scare you away. He is intently staring waiting for his next instruction. That big bark is his way of protecting his territory which includes his kennel, his home or his people. However, his bark is just a bark. At Jessiffany, multiple people walked and handled Benji with no incidents. Everyone had nothing but good to say because once he knows you, he becomes a total love bug.
While at Jessiffany, Benji had the opportunity to meet new dogs and he never showed dominance or animal aggression of any kind.
Benji deserves the best in life and will love his new family, he will just need some time to build that trust and confidence in his new home.
We feel that he will transition perfectly into his new home as long as he is given the direction and patience that he deserves. As part of Benji's adoption, we are offering a training session at Jessiffany.
