Prior to coming to GDHS, Ricky had lived outside all his life and was fed by the community.
At first when Ricky arrived, he was unsure of all the new human interactions that he was having. Volunteers and staff helped Ricky with his socialization skills. It has been a long process but over time Ricky has grown into his new indoor life with people.
Ricky is very food motivated and loves being scratched on top of his head, base of his tail and his sides. When he is happy, he makes cute little "grunting" sounds. Ricky has been known to curl up in the laps of people that he has built close relationships with, though he is still cautious of new people and new things and would do best in a quiet home with a predictable routine. Ricky does well with other cats but has bonded very closely with Kevin who was originally from the same cat colony. We strongly believe that Kevin and Ricky must be adopted into a home together.
Both Kevin and Ricky are FIV+. FIV is Feline Immunodeficiency Virus. Owners of FIV+ cats should be aware that this Virus is only transmittable between cats through deep bite wounds and cannot be transmitted through friendly contact or to dogs or humans. FIV does have potential to reduce a cats immune system, however studies have shown that cats with FIV often live as long as otherwise healthy cats that do not have this virus.
These Boys have been making wonderful progress with us and we feel that they would continue to improve in an understanding, calm environment.
