History: Adorable Rupert was very reluctantly surrendered by an emotional owner who could no longer afford care. His owner had a lot to say about this sweet boy, and here is a little synopsis of what he had to say:
·Couch Potato: He loves his bed and the couch, but will settle for a rug if nothing ls nothing else is available; he never lays on the floor.
·Big Lap Dog - loves pets, cuddling, and will crawl in lap if you let him
·Gets along with cats and dogs & loves dog park
·Rupert is spoiled & hard headed! He will whine for food or attention - very food motivated! He has never shown any food aggression, but has also never had to share. He will paw your leg roll over and nip at your feet for attention.
·He loves treats & chewing on bones - had his own basket of bones at home that he could retrieve whenever he wanted (his owner said he normally took them all to his kennel!)
·Sits by the door or paces if he needs to go out, does not whine.
·Rupert loves being outside and going for walks, but is not a big fan of being left out in the yard alone. He is normally pretty excited he 1st 10 minutes and pulls, but calms down after that.
·Rupert knows the following commands: leave it, drop it, sit, stay, lay down, kennel, bed, and potty.
·His owner bathed him one time per week, and he really enjoyed towel time and being brushed after the bath.
·He has never bit or attacked a person or animal, but if feels threatened will snap.

Temperament at Shelter: Rupert has been very sweet with staff, and was very easy to handle for vet procedures with minimal restraint.

Medical Concerns: Rupert has a history of issues with allergies, and he has been treated at the shelter and/or prior to arrival for the following: otitis; pododermatitis (inflammation of skin and paws); ocular issues such as conjunctivitis, bilateral keratopathy, and ulceration. We are currently treating his eyes with tacrolimus (0.02% MCT oil 15 mL 1 drop OU SID), and this may be needed long term.
