This regal lady is a very special girl . She was a stray, pregnant and terrified and basically a kitten herself at approx. 7 months old when she came to us in September of 2018.
She was secured by a lovely lady that brought her in so that she could have her kittens in a warm, safe and caring space. Shimmer and her family were brought into the shelter when her babes were ready to be adopted. Her three boys were adopted quickly but sadly Shimmer was not.
Shimmer had great difficulty being in the shelter, her trust level of humans had hit rock bottom. So, when a foster home became available Shimmer went to start a new life in building that trust back up. Her foster humans have let Shimmer come out of her shell on her own terms and time, with a little extra attention from the foster mom. Shimmer hid in cat houses and cubby beds but watched the other cats and kittens playing with each other and the foster family. Shimmer took notice and was slowly won over - chin rubs! There was no stopping her after that! Shimmer found out that she actually loves attention and has since become a lap cat, follows her foster mom around asking for brushing, patting and those loving chin rubs.
The person or family that adopts Shimmer will need to continue helping her learn she doesn't have to be afraid and she is loved. Shimmer is somewhat like a dog, she wants to please and wants to learn. Experience is a definite asset for this sweet lady.
Shimmer has not been with dogs or small children so she would do well as an only pet or with another gentle cat to guide her.
Because Shimmer started out her life as a feral cat she may not trust 100% but knowing her quirks and getting to know her personality and what makes her feel safe will make her an awesome roommate!
