Abernathy is a guardian of the heart!

With her gentle, unassuming presence, this girl would love to find someone who appreciates a quiet, comfy space. Aberthany might be named after the Crazy Cat Lady from the Simpsons, but beneath her shy exterior lies a gentle soul waiting to be discovered. While shy might be reserved, this delicate lady is waiting for the right family to let down her defences and discover the depth of her affection!

Abernathy may be shy, but she has a hidden sweet side behind her quiet exterior. You need to earn her trust first before she can let down her guard. When she first arrived, she was nervous and known to be a door dasher, but now she has gotten out of the habit of sprinting away. Instead, Abernathy will hide in her cubby, enjoying peace and quiet from a safe distance. Most of her time will be spent in a nice isolated space when she's not in the mood for attention, but when she is Abernathy will lean into gentle pets on her cheeks and chin from the back-scratcher. On occasions you may also pet her with your hand, but you must take it slow and let her adjust to your presence. Her ears might be back but she appreciates the affection!

Abernathy is a skittish cat who has had minimal experience with humans. She is currently enrolled in EHS's socialization program, where dedicated volunteers are working to help her become more comfortable around people. There have been many successful graduates from this program, but potential adopters should be prepared to commit the time, effort, and patience required to help Abernathy along this journey. It should be noted that while some skittish cats might remain reserved, others may express their trust and affection in a variety of ways. A skittish cat will benefit from a calm, quiet environment, preferably without small children. EHS will provide post-adoption support to assist Abernathy with a successful transition to her forever home.

Once Abernathy feels comfortable, she can begin to let down her guarded exterior and reveal the warm heart we all know is hiding! There is a playful little soul within, but she has only shown that side of herself to a select few who have gained her trust. A word to the wise, don't go near her soft toys, she can get a little sensitive.
