Erebus, the furry little lord of darkness has arrived!
Not to be confused with his mythic Greek name, our Erebus was named after the majestic Antarctic volcano famous for spouting gold amongst its lava ($2.1 million dollars' worth per year, to be exact!). Far from these riches, Erebus the cat was picked up as a stray from the streets of Hamilton.
Shy and guarded upon arrival, Erebus is adjusting to shelter life and is beginning to feel more comfortable around our doting volunteers. This handsome black cat does best when approached slowly, so as to avoid any little eruptions of fear. Recently, he's started accepting pets by hand, showing a preference for being touched around his neck and chin. Erebus is a curious cat and has been described as a funny guy, who's food motivated and interested in play. Who knows what other golden personality traits might bubble up to the surface as this boy lets us get to know him better?

Erebus is a skittish cat who has had minimal experience with humans. He is currently enrolled in EHS's socialization program, where dedicated volunteers are working to help him become more comfortable around people. There have been many successful graduates from this program, but potential adopters should be prepared to commit the time, effort, and patience required to help Erebus along this journey. It should be noted that while some skittish cats might remain reserved, others may express their trust and affection in a variety of ways. A skittish cat will benefit from a calm, quiet environment, preferably without small children. EHS will provide post-adoption support to assist Erebus with a successful transition to his forever home.
Why not come by the shelter and meet Erebus today? Adopt him and you might just find all the gold that glimmers under his sleek, dark exterior!
The adoption fee for a single cat at EHS is $175. Take home an adult feline friend for your kitty and the adoption fee for the pair is $300! For kittens under six months of age, the adoption fee is $200...or, double your cuteness quotient and adopt two wee furballs for $350! If you mix and match (kitten plus cat), the adoption fee is $300. Each of our cats is spayed/neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccines, snap tested for FIV/FeLV, dewormed, and flea treated prior to adoption. Kittens are not spayed or neutered until 5 months of age, but the cost of spay/neuter will be covered as part of the adoption.
Interested in adopting Erebus? It's easy! Just click "Adopt a Cat" on the EHS website ( and fill out our "Cat Adoption Form." An EHS representative will be pleased to help.
