Hello, I'm Duncan! I'm a smart and loyal black German Shepherd. They think I am around 2 years old. I may have a little hitch in my giddy-up due to some hip issues, but don't let that fool you I am still a boy who is so so so eager to please my people. I have some of my basic commands down-pat but my family should make sure they keep working on things with me.
HSLM says I was a stray so I guess that makes me special or something?! They don't know much about where I came from, but they have learned a few things since taking me in. I can walk well on a leash when I want to but I am a naturally active and high energy breed who has a VERY strong prey drive. I am not the biggest fan of toys, I just don't see the appeal, but I like puzzles and I am very loyal which is what really counts.
Do you have large breed dog experience? I will need a handler who knows what they are doing, and can physically manage me. l must go to a home with a fenced in backyard where I can have supervised time off of a leash. My new home cannot have other animals or children and I can be a wee bit loud and barky, so a detached home with no shared walls is the place for me. I'm a loyal companion, always ready to offer comfort or a friendly paw. I'm looking for a family who has experience with my breed and the common concerns regarding hip dysplasia.
I am not viewable at the shelter currently, so there will be no walk-in meets for me. Applications can be submitted in-person at the shelter, or filled out and emailed to adoptions@hslm.ca. My new people will need to come and have multiple meetings with me until they can officially take me home. Before I go to my new home, someone from our Animal Health Department will talk with you about my hips, medications, and general animal health tips for a boy like me!
