Meet Chuck, a handsome 8-plus-year-old domestic shorthair with a gentle soul and an independent streak. Chuck is the kind of cat who enjoys companionship on his own terms-he may come over for head and chin scratches or curl up nearby on a cozy pillow, but he's also perfectly content spending time on his own. He has lived peacefully with other cats and may share a couch or nap space with a feline friend, though he isn't particularly social or playful with them. Chuck is tolerant of respectful children but doesn't actively seek them out, and he's known to quietly retreat when visitors come by rather than greet them at the door.

Chuck shines in calm, low-traffic environments and has a mellow, affectionate personality once he feels comfortable. Volunteers describe him as full of purrs and gentle headbutts, with subtle nudges asking for more pets. He enjoys lounging in soft spots, playing with rope and laser pointer toys, and accepting gentle grooming-though nail trims aren't his favorite activity.

Medically, Chuck is doing well overall. He has a history of urinary issues but has been using the litter box consistently in the shelter. He's currently on a urinary care diet to support his health. Chuck also has some mild dental disease, including gingivitis and a few missing teeth, but he's still eating well and doesn't require dental treatment at this point. He's slightly overweight and would benefit from a portion-controlled diet. You may also notice some mild eye tearing, which appears to be a chronic condition but isn't currently causing issues. Chuck was previously prescribed an anti-anxiety medication, prior to surrender, but he is no longer on it and has been doing well in the shelter environment.

The ideal home for Chuck would be a quiet, cat-savvy household-preferably adult-only or with older, respectful children-where he can have access to cozy resting spots and feel safe and secure. If you're someone who appreciates a cat with quiet affection, a soft purr, and a touch of mystery, Chuck may be just the companion you're looking for.
