6-18-26: Great Update on Helen, from one of our staff members!! New pictures included from her home visit....
Our awesome Kari took Helen for a day trip away from the shelter, here is what she had to say:
Helen is such a sweet and fun girl. She did great in the car and loved walks and just being outside in the fresh air. She would walk well on a leash when there were no distractions, but would pull pretty hard when she saw squirrels/bunnies or other dogs. She was more active than I thought she would be, wanting to stay outside sniffing around. Helen is a gentle giant, she was down and depressed for the longest time upon arrival and has been here for over two months and is starting to come into her own and show her true colors.

This chunky girl came to PCHS when she wandered onto a property where she did not belong just outside of Spring Valley. The property owners held onto her for a few days while having her scanned for a microchip and looking for her owners. They were unable to find out who she belonged to, so she came to us. We then kept her through her stray hold and we also could not locate her owners. So now, sweet Helen is looking for a new home to call her own.
Helen is estimated to be some sort of mastiff mix and is thought to be around 6 years old. She is a bit on the "thick" side, and the vet recommended she loose 10-12 pounds. She currently weighs 109 pounds but a more ideal weight for her would be just under 100. She is a quiet girl who is looking for a home where she can lounge with her people, bask in the morning sun, and go for leisurely walks.
She did not get along with the finders female dog. She may do okay with a submissive male dog, but we would want to do a meet and greet to be sure. It is unknown how she would be with cats or kids.
