Whether it's wearing a construction vest for a photo op or pretending to be a police academy recruit, Bentley Blue's serious expression somehow makes even the silliest social media posts look important-as important as a dog in a manta ray costume can look, anyway. Behind that stoic face, though, is a dog focused on one thing: treats. Occasionally, his intense concentration comes with a delicate string of drool, a detail captured in some of our finer photoshoots.
When he's not modeling for us, Bentley Blue is a big-hearted, dopey boy who loves rolling in the grass, tugging on toys, flopping into laps, and enthusiastically working to earn more treats! He's the kind of dog that makes us scratch our heads and wonder why he's still here. On the adoption floor, he's not the one barking or bouncing around for attention. He sits quietly, waiting.
Lately, Bentley's confidence has wavered. Long months at the shelter have left him a little unsure of new people and unfamiliar situations. While he's perhaps more stoic than even we originally thought, Bentley is still a funny and cool companion for someone who will give him time to adjust-and work with him too. Some things might always seem a little spooky to him-like a neighbor's gargoyle statue or, well, your actual neighbor. With patience, a routine Bentley can count on, and plenty of positive reinforcement, he should largely rediscover his confidence.
Some other tidbits: Bentley is generally good on leash, but don't be surprised if he launches into an enthusiastic squirrel sprint now and then. Older kids would be a better match for Bentley, just in case his 10-second zoomies make an appearance (you've been warned). And since toddlers learning to walk can resemble tiny, staggering (adorable) zombies, Bentley might find that a bit too 100% horrifying.
He might do well with a respectful canine companion who matches his play style, but he'd also be perfectly happy as the only dog in the home, soaking up all the love, attention-and treats. You'll soak up the driblets of drool. Just a dab, here and there.
Bentley Blue has been everything the shelter needed-a cooperative model, a patient participant, and an all-around good boy. Now, he's ready to leave the costumes behind and just be Bentley Blue: a sweet, goofy dog who's eager to find a place where he belongs. Is that with you?
