Matilda was brought to the shelter as a stray after being picked up along the highway. When she first arrived, she was scared and nervous. It took time, but once she got to know the staff and volunteers, she has become very friendly. She is still leery of new people and prospective adoptees should know it may take several tries and a few days for her to warm up. However, she seems to always warm up and develop trust after a few attempts. Once that trust is established, she is everyone's best friend and loves to be petted and cuddled.
She walks well on leash, relishing her outdoor time and plays well with other dogs. Matilda is a quick learner (she knows "sit" and "down") and definitely wants to please. She is a moderate energy dog and has an "off switch" after play/walking. When she's gone overnight with volunteers, she seems house trained.
Ideally, Matilda's new home would be with folks who are willing to take the time for her to develop trust. Being around and meeting lots of new people might not be a good fit for her, at least initially. Once she feels safe with folks, we've seen her become a lovable, loyal dog, and a volunteer/staff favorite. If prospective adopters are willing to show her patience and love, she has all the traits to become a great companion. Matilda may need 2 or 3 meet/greets to get comfortable, but she is worth it.
