Hi, my name is Nigel, and I'm an 8-month-old boy with a big heart and an even bigger capacity for love. My story didn't start out very well. I was found alone on the side of the road and in the woods one evening, extremely skinny and trying my best to survive on my own. The summer heat, hunger, bugs, and all the roughness of being outside left me with some wounds, but I'm healing more and more every day. Soon my coat will grow back thick, shiny, and healthy, and my past will be much harder to see.
Because I went so long without knowing when my next meal would come, I'm still learning that food will always be there for me. My foster mom gives me several small meals throughout the day, and I'm slowly becoming less frantic and excited about eating. I know that with consistency and time, I'll continue to learn that I never have to worry about going hungry again.
I'm still a puppy, so I have a few puppy behaviors to work through, but I'm a very willing student. I'm kind, gentle, submissive, and eager to please. I'm working on my sit, and I love learning new things. I already know what a kennel is and will go in when I'm asked, although staying there for longer periods is still a work in progress.
One of my favorite things about myself is how respectful I am with other animals. My foster home has seven cats, and I absolutely love them! I enjoy sniffing them when they come over, and they happily rub against me for attention. I also have six dog foster siblings. I'm respectful with them and sometimes try to play, although I'm often content to run alongside them or sit back and watch when their play gets a little too rough. I'm also good with pigs and horses, and I've learned how to be a helpful farm dog while still staying safely out of the way during chores.
I'm wonderful with people, too. I'm friendly with both men and women, and I've been around toddlers, preschoolers, school-age children, and teenagers. I'm excited to see the kids but also very gentle with them. I think I could be a wonderful companion for a family with children.
When it's time to go outside, I'm a great walking buddy. I walk nicely on a leash and am pretty calm and passive while walking. In the yard, I enjoy being playful and excited, but I'm also perfectly happy to sit and watch everything happening around me. I'm not a hyperactive puppy who has to be on the go every second. I love a little playtime and exploration, followed by coming inside to cool off and relax.
I'm also very well behaved when it comes to my belongings. I don't tear up toys or other things, and I'm learning all about being a well-mannered young dog. I'm comfortable having my ears checked and cleaned, my mouth looked at, my paws handled, and my nails trimmed. I'm even a good sport about taking my heartworm and flea prevention.
More than anything, I'm just a really good boy who wants to be loved. I've already been through more than a puppy should have to experience, but I haven't let it make me anything other than sweet, gentle, and trusting. I love kisses, learning, exploring, playing outside, and then coming inside to snuggle with my people.
I'm looking for someone who will give me the kindness, patience, exercise, attention, and consistency that every young dog deserves. In return, I'll give you my whole heart.
I may have started out wondering where my next meal would come from, but now I'm learning what it feels like to be safe, cared for, and loved. I'm ready for the next chapter of my life - and I hope it's with you.
My adoption fee includes up-to-date vaccinations, dewormer, and heartworm/flea prevention. Plus, a microchip that is already registered to you! What more could you ask for?
If my bio shows "Spay/Neutered" with a checkmark, I have already been altered; if you do not see this listed, my surgery is still scheduled and a refundable spay/neuter deposit will be required, which will be returned within 24 hours after my procedure is completed.
If you'd like to meet me, please fill out an application on our website, PawmettoLifeline.org.
