Patches' story is one of quiet resilience and love. About six years ago, he was found as a tiny puppy-only around eight pounds-alone in a ditch along a rural highway with his head tragically stuck inside a plastic bottle as he tried to reach the small amount of water at the bottom. Unable to free himself, Patches was rescued just in time by George Rogers, a Vietnam combat veteran and compassionate animal lover.
George immediately took Patches to a local animal hospital, where he was checked out and found to be healthy. After making efforts to locate an owner with no success, George welcomed Patches into his home, where he lived happily for more than six years.
During that time, Patches shared his life with George and another dog, Harley, who is now around 13 years old. With no other animals in the home, Patches and Harley formed a strong bond and became devoted companions. They spent their days enjoying a relaxed country life-lounging in the house, resting in the shade near the front porch, or soaking up the sunshine together.
Patches is a calm, easygoing dog with good manners. He comes when called, understands basic commands like "no," and will gladly sit for treats. He enjoys a peaceful environment and thrives on simple companionship. Since his rescue, Patches has had very limited exposure to other animals, so a home where introductions are handled thoughtfully-or where he can be the only pet or live with a calm canine companion-may be ideal.
After the passing of his beloved owner George, Patches is now looking for a new forever home where he can feel safe, loved, and secure once again. He would do best in a quiet, stable home with someone who appreciates a loyal, laid-back companion and understands that sometimes the most special dogs are the ones who have already overcome so much.
Patches has already proven how strong and loving he can be-now he just needs someone to give him the second chance he deserves.
