***** UPDATE *****
***** PUPPY *****
We'd like to update Oscar's information with some positive news! Over the past few weeks, his foster parents have seen significant improvements in Oscar's behavior when interacting with his canine foster brother. He is now able to engage in short, positive play sessions, and he does well when these interactions are kept brief. However, Oscar is not yet able to roam freely with his foster brother without close supervision. While he enjoys the playtime, he's still learning important boundaries and how to recognize social cues.
With the right temperament match, Oscar could potentially succeed in a home with another dog, especially a calm, non-aggressive one. That said, Oscar's past experiences with other dogs have been challenging. His reactive barking and initial attempts to bite upon meeting new dogs have made it difficult to assess his compatibility with others. Success in this area will require the right match, training, patience, and consistent effort.
Age: 4-months-old
Weight: 10 pounds
Health: Excellent
Demeanor: Affectionate; sweet; playful; high energy; vocal
Likes: People (including children); playing tug; snuggling; being held; sitting in laps; car rides; walks; belly rubs; any toys
Dislikes: Unsure of other dogs but learning to engage with monitored and short sessions. Can be defensive and aggressive if not given proper space and introductions
Manners: Housebroken; crate trained; working on leash walking and verbal commands
Fenced Yard: Preferred. If not, must be kept on leash at all times
Tidbits: Oscar is a playful fella who will steal your heart with his handsome face and dancing front feet. He absolutely loves meeting new people and will greet everyone with kisses! He's got endless energy and is always ready for a play session with toys of every size and shape.
When he's worn out (which happens often!), he's more than happy to curl up on your lap and take a well-earned nap. He sleeps soundly in his crate at night and is comfortable being left alone in the crate while you're away. Oscar is also a pro at car rides-he'll settle right into his seat and snooze the entire way.
Oscar's doing great with his house training! He's learning to go potty on command and has had very few accidents. He also enjoys short walks around the neighborhood and his leash skills are improving with each adventure (this should be a continued routine).
With a little patience and routine, his confidence has really blossomed, and his affection for his humans has grown by leaps and bounds. Oscar would love a family that can keep up with his playful spirit and continue building on the wonderful progress he's made. He's ready to bring endless joy, love, and a little bit of puppy mischief to your life!
In summary, if you have a dog and want to apply, your dog should be characterized as calm and low-key. If you are approved to adopt, a meet and greet will be scheduled with your dog. Please do not apply if you are not willing to continue to work with Oscar on his manners and temperament around other dogs:
