Trixie, big beautiful Trixie, is BTRNC's newest resident. She was surrendered because she was too rough with her owner's elderly dog. But Trixie says she can't help that she's an enthusiastic Boston with a rambunctious side. She counters that with her sweet disposition and loving nature. From what her foster mom says, Trixie is a great girl with a lot of potential. She's well on her way to being someone's new best friend. Could that be you? Read on for more:

Age: 4 years old

Weight: 33 pounds

Health: Excellent

Demeanor: Affectionate, sweet, playful, high energy (in the morning and evening), social, curious, vocal (at strangers)

Likes: People (including children over 8 as she tends to knock over small/young kids), dogs, cats, playing tug-o-war, fetch, giving kisses, snuggling, car rides, walks, belly rubs, naps, chew toys, balls (her favorite is a big ball that makes noise when it moves), stuffed toys that she will happily de-stuff

Dislikes: Being crated, vacuums, strangers (barks), loud noises simply put her on alert

Manners: Housebroken (except at night), leash trained. Working on verbal commands like stay, sit, leave it

Fenced Yard Required: Preferred and should be at least 4' tall as Trixie can jump! Trixie loves to do zoomies in her foster's yard. She'd enjoy being able to continue to do this, however, if there is no fenced yard (or the fence is less than 4'), then she must be kept on leash at all times. She also knows how to use a doggy door if you have one

Tidbits: Trixie is the epitome of "fun-loving." She loves to have fun by playing with other dogs, zipping around the yard and chasing her favorite ball. She enjoys walks, snuggling with her humans and naptime. Trixie has a lot of energy in the mornings and evenings. When she plays, she plays hard, and then she crashes for a power nap. She likes to walk around with a toy in her mouth and take it outside for playtime. She is a real ninja when another dog tries to take it from her.

Her former owners stated she had a sensitive stomach, but so far, her foster mom says Trixie doesn't seem to have any issues. She loves her treats and certain fruits/veggies. She doesn't beg for food but might try to counter surf to see what's available. Trash cans are enticing, too ??.

She's working on her nighttime potty training. Right now, she doesn't go in the house during the day as long as she isn't left for longer than 5+ hours. At night, she will go on large washable pee pads (foster mom found out that she will chew up the small, disposable pads) as she either hasn't learned to hold it or can't. It may be she just needs some additional training.

It's important to note that Trixie can jump high. If you have a fence lower than 4', she will likely scale it with ease. She's great on a leash though, so if you do not have a fence or your fence is shorter than 4', taking her for walks to get her exercise will be important. Because she also jumps on people, adopting to anyone with small children is not an option. Kids over 8 years old are okay, however.

Trixie thinks it's great fun to rough house with other dogs. But smaller and older dogs don't care for it. Trixie would do best with another playmate who is equally engaging, who likes to wrestle and play tug or is up for a game of chase. Remember, she is on the bigger side. Currently she does very well with a male Boston who is equal to the challenge.

What would this sweet, funny and active girl want in her next home? This:

Another equally gregarious and energetic doggy friend OR a human who will play fetch or go on walks with her. She'd take either or both
A fenced yard (fence taller than 4')
No small/young children
No older/small dogs
A person willing to continue training in manners and housebreaking
A person who enjoys engaging her in activities
A person who likes snuggles and naps
A person who won't leave her for longer than 5-hour intervals (for potty breaks)
