Before we get into the details about this sweet dog, please know that the decision to rehome him was one of the most painful and difficult decisions of his mom's life. Her circumstances, which are very tough, have resulted in having to make this heartbreaking choice. We ask that you do not judge, but rather share Gizmo's post with others so that we can find him a home as loving and wonderful as the one he's in now.

So, let's meet Gizmo. He's 4.5 years old (d.o.b. 2/17/19) and weighs 26 pounds. He's neutered and up-to-date on all his vaccinations. He's housebroken, leash and crate trained and knows several verbal commands like sit, come, go to bed and off.

Gizmo has a lot of energy and loves hikes and walks, but he also likes to chill. He enjoys car rides and does well on long trips. If you have the ability, he'll gladly join you at work, laying contentedly next to your desk. When he's happy, he skips and dances. When he's cold, slip on his coat, and he'll do zoomies all over the yard. Fetch you ask? Nope, he'll take that toy and run away (skipping all the while as if to say, "Ha, ha, ha, that was funny!).

Gizmo was attacked by a larger dog when he was a pup and, therefore, does not like other dogs. When encountering dogs on hikes or walks, you must move away to allow the others to pass. He wears a collar that warns, "No Dogs." So, his next home will require him to be the only canine in the house.

The biggest thing to know about Gizmo is that he has glaucoma in his left eye (and his right is under preventative care). Having this condition means he requires several medications which need to be dispensed in his eyes several times a day (highly important to maintain the health of his eyes). The medications are not very expensive and can be purchased through Walgreen's pharmacy. Regular vet visits to re-check the pressure of his eyes is necessary. Those visits typically take less than 15 mins and cost less than a normal exam. He will also need an eye specialist whom he'll see a few times a year. Giz is very good about taking his medications. Simply tell him it's time for "drops, drops," and he'll come and wait for you to administer them. There is no battling him because he's such a good boy!

Gizmo needs to be crated when you are away from the house as he tends to pee if not. He doesn't put up a fuss. He knows what "go to bed" means, and he obeys. His crate must have a blanket so he can fluff and burrow.

So, what does Gizmo need in his next home? Most important is a home where someone can give him his eye drops 3x a day, and someone who is committed to making sure he gets his eye pressures checked regularly. There can be no other dogs in the home (or visiting). A fenced yard is a must. He'd very much like someone who will take him on hikes or walks because he enjoys them so much. And of course, someone who will give him the love and attention he's used to now (and that's A LOT)!

If you can provide Gizmo with the home described above, please contact Betsy at BetsysBostons@aol.com.
