Meet Mimieux, or MiMi to her friends. She's been with us since 2023 and has a sad story to share: Mimieux and her 4 sweet kittens were rescued from an outdoor colony, and unfortunately they all tested positive for Feline Leukemia Virus. This is a retrovirus that only infects cats. It attacks and invades cells in their immune system and other blood-tissue cells. It can result in cancer, anemia, and increased susceptibility to other illnesses and infections- which with a weakened immune system can quickly become deadly. The average lifespan of a cat with FeLV is between 1 to 3 years, and tragically none of Mimeux's babies made it past two ????????
Mimieux is a tough cookie though: she's coming up on three years with us here at the SPCA and although she is still testing positive, she remains active and healthy. She has a pretty suite setup here and we love her very much, but what we would love even more is for this special girl to get to spend as much time as she has left in a home of her own! She's been patiently waiting for that one unicron adopter or foster willing to step up for a FeLV+ cat... could that be you?
Mimuex is looking for a laid-back lifestyle, full of sunbathing in windows all day and curling up next to someone at night. She doesn't like to be picked up but will happily hop up onto the couch next to you for a brushing or a cuddle. She is definitely not a fan of other cats, but she does fine around dogs! She mostly ignores them, although she may look disapproving if they get too loud and give a warning hiss if they get too much in her face. She just knows how to stick up for herself. Mimieux really enjoys her meals and treats, although she was enjoying them a bit too much and has recently been put on a diet plan. We do not know what the long term future holds for Mimieux, but we do know she is a great cat who deserves to experience the love of her own special person. Feline Leukemia Virus is a heartbreaking illness, but it's even more heartbreaking to think Mimieux could spend her entire life without ever experiencing a real home. Don't wait, apply to adopt or foster today!
