Due to COVID 19, and the Illinois Shelter in Place order, we have experienced an overwhelming increase in the interest of animal adopting. We have been inundated with more applications than we can process, as we are an all-volunteer agency.

We do sincerely thank you for your interest in adoption. At this time, we will only be reaching out to applicants who may be a potential match for one of our available animals.

NOTE: WE ARE FOSTER BASED, AND ONLY FULLY APPROVED APPLICATIONS ARE SCHEDULED FOR A MEET AND GREET.

Again, we are all volunteers, and do our best to acknowledge/respond to all applications and inquiries, in a timely manner.

Please read the bio below - in it's entirety - before submitting an application.

Thank you!

Soldier was a Lake County stray that was unclaimed after sitting out his old time. He arrived in poor condition, very underweight and understandably scared. We have no idea how long he had been on the run fending for himself. When he arrived to his foster home he was very unsure. He had just been neutered and was still a tad drowsy. Foster mom set up a large crate for him in the living room. Nice cushy pillow, soft blankets, stuffed toy. He observed the comings and goings of her household for several hours.

48 hours later: he's much more relaxed, met the remaining pack of dogs. He eats with the others. As a typical chihuahua he may seem to be unapproachable, but it's only an act. The right people, gentle, caring, patient he will easily adapt to.

He gets along with other dogs once he gets to know them. He doesn't play, but will cuddle with you. He is crate trained, but obviously prefers to be out. He is potty trained. He prefers women over men, but again, with gentleness and patience he will learn to trust. He has been around a child who is 4yrs old. She is an animal lover and knows how to respect animals. He is also warm and loving and even grateful at times. Applications at www.placingpawsrescue.org.

ADOPTION FEE: $350.00 The adoption fee includes all age appropriate vaccinations including rabies, HW test if age appropriate, de-worming, microchip, fecal, spay or neuter, Heartworm and flea and tick preventative. ADOPTION PROCESS: PLEASE READ CAREFULLY The first step in the adoption process is to fill out an application online at www.placingpawsrescue.org. Once we review the applications, those applicants that are thought to be a good match will be contacted as quickly as possible. We ask that you please be patient with us as we are all volunteers. Then a telephone interview will take place, references checked and a home visit will be conducted. We will then arrange for you to meet the dog. We require that all family members, including current dogs meet the dog prior to adoption. We put all of the known information in the animals description. If the animal is listed on the website, we are still accepting applications for that animal. We only remove the animal when the final adoption paperwork is signed. The best way to contact us is by email at placingpaws@yahoo.com. It is very difficult for the limited numbers of volunteers to return all calls. Thank you.
