Adopter:
- P is special needs. She has moderate ataxia (wobbly/drunken gait) and is at high risk for fall injury. She must be protected from falls down stairs, or off furniture. Block access to stairs and do not leave her on furniture as she will try to follow you and will fall. Neurologic injury continues to heal gradually over many months. She will likely continue to have neurologic improvement, but it is unlikely she will ever be normal.
Further neurologic damage while healing is ongoing (as in from a fall, attack, or other trauma) is likely to cause more severe damage than would be expected from the incident alone. She currently benefits from artificial tears drops (Genteal) about once per day due to the damage to her right eye. This may resolve over time, or may be a lifelong minor problem for her.
Recommend low, flat litter box options. P unlikely to be able to use a normal hight litter box which may discourage litter box compliance and litter box training. This P seems very uncomfortable walking on rough material such as thick, rock-like litter substrates. She will only use fine litter at this time. Currently having good compliance with a multi-cat clumping litter in a very low-walled litter box. Recommend keeping contained in a smaller area such as a bathroom or bedroom when alone, with no carpet or rugs on floor until litterbox training is complete.
- P should be protected from larger animals such as dogs, which could accidentally cause her injury and should be indoor-only due to her disability. She will likely have some permanent disability, which would require she be indoor-only lifelong. She is at high-risk for predation.
