Phoenix is a handsome young mixed breed with a big personality and even bigger energy! At just over a year old, he's still very much a playful, curious, and bouncy boy who loves exploring his surroundings and taking in everything the world has to offer.
Phoenix has made incredible progress since arriving at the shelter. He can be shy and a bit unsure at first, especially in new environments or with new people, but with patience and consistency, he warms up and shows off his sweet and affectionate side. Once he feels comfortable, he enjoys attention and will happily relax by your side.
He has done well meeting other dogs and can engage in appropriate play, especially with dogs who respect his space. Phoenix would do best with a tolerant or calmer canine companion, or as the only dog while he continues to build confidence.
Like many young dogs, Phoenix is still learning his manners. He can get excited and may jump up or try to rush through doorways, so he will benefit from continued training and structure in the home. He is eager to learn and already knows "sit," making him a great candidate for further positive reinforcement training.
Phoenix is looking for an adopter who understands that he will need time to adjust. He will require a decompression period of at least two weeks in his new home to help him settle in and feel safe. During this time, slow introductions, a calm environment, and consistent routines will be key to his success.
