Maritza is a sweet, comfort-seeking, 64-pound girl looking for a patient person to help her feel safe and loved. With her pretty, unique eye color and tender heart, she has a special way of drawing you in. She can be a little nervous at first but warms up once outside, seeking reassurance-and snuggles-from her walking companion. Loud noises can startle her, so she appreciates a gentle approach. Maritza is friendly, enjoys pets, and seeks out those cozy moments of closeness. She may have some housetraining experience, though we're still learning about her habits.
The busy shelter environment can be a bit overwhelming for her, but once she gets into a quieter yard away from all the hustle and bustle, you can really see her shine. She becomes more focused on her handler, stays engaged, and proudly shows off her "sit." And treats? She's always happy to accept a tasty reward! On the trails, Maritza can pull when she spots small critters, so she'll need an adopter who is prepared to manage her strength on leash and help her navigate those exciting moments.
Maritza absolutely loves her toys! She carries them around proudly and invites you to join in. But she's also content to toss them around the yard and chase them - she keeps herself entertained!
Maritza has met other dogs at the shelter and does best with socially savvy friends. She may need to meet any potential doggie roommates to make sure they are a good match. She is also eligible to come back to BARCS for social sessions.
