Meet Baloo, a sweet 10-month-old puppy who is still discovering the world and learning that good things come from trusting her people. At 46 pounds, she is a growing girl with plenty of puppyhood ahead of her. The shelter environment was a little overwhelming for her, but time in a foster home has given her the chance to relax, build confidence, and show more of her sweet personality.
Baloo can be shy when meeting new people, but she is warming up quickly! During a recent adoption event, she met lots of new faces and showed that she is becoming more comfortable with friendly introductions. She does best when people let her approach them rather than reaching for her right away. Once she feels safe, her affectionate side shines through, and she enjoys snuggling, receiving pets, and staying close to her people. It has been wonderful to see her confidence grow as she learns that the world isn't such a scary place after all.
This sweet girl enjoys getting outside and exploring. She walks nicely on a leash and is curious about the people and dogs she encounters, without showing reactivity toward them. At home, she is pretty chill and enjoys a relaxed atmosphere, but she also has a playful, energetic side when given the opportunity to stretch her legs. Her foster takes her to a field for a daily run, where she can burn off some energy and enjoy being a puppy. She also recently visited Home Depot, which was initially pretty scary for her, but she became more comfortable as she walked through the store. With continued positive experiences and encouragement, Baloo can keep building confidence in new environments.
Baloo has experience with other dogs and has shown herself to be a gentle, social girl. She has interacted well with both larger and smaller dogs and tends to be curious and interested in making friends while respecting their space. She may enjoy having a polite canine companion, though any resident dogs should meet her at the shelter to make sure everyone is a good match. Baloo has also had positive experiences around children and has been comfortable meeting kids, making her a promising companion for a family willing to give her time to settle in.
Baloo has also had exposure to cats and coexists well. As with any young dog entering a home with resident pets, slow introductions and appropriate supervision will help everyone adjust comfortably.
At home, Baloo is affectionate, enjoys snuggling with her people, and is generally pretty relaxed when she has had a chance to exercise. She is still a curious puppy, however, and can get into things when left unsupervised. Her foster recommends crating her when no one is home to keep her safe and prevent her from getting into trouble. She has also shown signs of separation anxiety, so she will benefit from a patient adopter who can help her gradually build confidence with alone time and establish a predictable routine.
Baloo is still working on housetraining and continues to have accidents around the house. Her new family should be prepared to maintain a consistent potty schedule, offer frequent trips outside, and reward her for going in the right place. She is still young and learning, so patience and consistency will be important as she develops reliable habits.
Baloo is a sweet, sensitive young dog whose confidence is blossoming with each new experience. She may need a little extra encouragement when meeting new people or navigating unfamiliar situations, but she is already showing how quickly she can warm up when given the chance to approach at her own pace. In return, you'll get an affectionate, snuggly companion who enjoys being close to her people, exploring the outdoors, and discovering all the good things life has to offer. Baloo is looking for a loving home that will celebrate her progress, help her continue learning, and give her the patience and support she needs to thrive.
Baloo is currently in the comfort of a foster home. If you're interested in meeting her, please complete an application and email dogfosters@barcs.org for next steps!
