Meet Puddin Pop! This petite, gorgeous brindle lady came to BARCS as a stray. While she may be beautiful on the outside, inside she is a very nervous girl who is still learning that the world can be a safe place.

After Puddin arrived at BARCS, staff quickly noticed how frightened she was in the kennel and moved her into a quieter office. Her human office mate discovered that she enjoys chicken and peanut butter and will slowly approach people when given the time and space to do so on her own terms. When she feels overwhelmed, Puddin may freeze and need to be carried.

A volunteer brought Puddin Pop home and has been fostering her for a few weeks, giving her a quiet place to decompress and build confidence. She allowed her foster to pick her up and place her in the car, where she rode quietly. In the home, Puddin considers her crate a safe place and will retreat there when she needs some security. Little by little, she started to warm up and approach her foster-and has even begun showing off some sweet tail wags! These are wonderful signs that she is beginning to feel more comfortable.

Puddin Pop is a sensitive girl who needs a little time and patience to feel safe, but watching her blossom is incredibly rewarding. She has started climbing onto the couch to relax beside her foster at night and now approaches members of the family for gentle pets. She has also met a few new people in the home, though she remains mostly avoidant with unfamiliar people and prefers to keep her distance while she gets comfortable. Although she is still very shy, she is slowly coming out of her shell.

While her foster mom was on vacation, Puddin Pop stayed with another foster family who had children. She was shy around the children, though she bravely approached them to sniff and offer a few sweet kisses. When the house became too noisy, she retreated to her crate for comfort. Puddin Pop would do best with older, respectful children who can give her space, let her approach on her own terms, and help keep her surroundings calm.

This lovely girl adores her canine foster siblings and gains confidence from their company. She enjoys trying to play with the more easygoing dog in the home and has started jumping onto the bed to snuggle with the resident dogs. Much like she is with new people, Puddin needs canine friends who are respectful, not overly playful, and willing to give her time and space to become comfortable. She would do best in a home with another calm, gentle dog to offer reassurance and help her discover how much fun being a dog can be! She may need to meet any potential doggie roommates to ensure they are a good match.

Puddin Pop is doing well with housetraining and settles calmly in her crate when left alone. She has also started discovering the joy of toys, including squeaky stuffies and split antlers.

The area where Puddin Pop needs the most help building confidence is walking on a leash, but she is making some encouraging progress! With her foster mom's daily support, she no longer "pancakes" at thresholds and has started walking on leash in the yard. These are meaningful steps for a girl who has found the world so overwhelming. She is still unsure about having the leash attached, and the big world beyond her yard feels scary. She may freeze or lie down when she feels overwhelmed. Potential adopters should understand that leash walks remain a significant challenge for her and will require ongoing patience, gentle encouragement, and a willingness to move at her pace.

Because Puddin Pop once climbed a six-foot fence while trying to reach another dog for playtime, she should always be carefully supervised outside. Puddin Pop will need an adopter who is familiar with shy dogs and willing to celebrate her small steps forward. She isn't ready to rush into the world, but with a calm home and a compassionate person by her side, this sensitive girl has so much potential to blossom.

Puddin Pop is currently in the comfort of a temporary foster home. If you're interested in meeting her, please complete an application and email dogfosters@barcs.org for next steps!
