Meet Belladonna, a total sweetie pie who is discovering just how wonderful life outside the shelter can be! Although she can be a little timid when first meeting someone, she warms up quickly and has a whole lot of love to share once she feels comfortable. This affectionate girl is a certified cuddle bug who adores belly rubs, snuggling close, and being near her people. She may even wag her tail while she snores away in her sleep! If you're looking for a companion who will happily soak up your attention and make herself cozy right beside you, Belladonna is ready to apply for the position.

Belladonna has been an easygoing houseguest in her foster home and appears to be fully housebroken. She is generally comfortable when left alone and can settle herself after her person leaves. She may whine or jump and paw at the door when someone heads out, suggesting she experiences some departure-related anxiety, but she has not been destructive toward household items or property. She did discover a container of rolled oats left within reach, so keeping food and other tempting items put away will help her continue to succeed.

When it comes to relaxing at home, Belladonna has the routine figured out: enjoy a walk, spend some time playing with toys, and then settle in for a serious cuddle session. She has moderate energy and is content with short to medium walks, some playtime, and plenty of naps in between. She enjoys both soft stuffed toys and harder Nylabone-style chews, giving her a few options for keeping herself entertained when she's not busy being her person's shadow.

Belladonna absolutely loves meeting people! She has greeted adult men and women both inside and outside the home without showing any concerning behaviors. She even accompanied her foster to a local bar, where she did very well relaxing beside the table and thoroughly enjoyed having strangers stop by to say hello and offer treats. Her preferred greeting can involve enthusiastic jumping, pawing, and plenty of affection, so she is working on keeping all four paws on the floor. Her enthusiasm comes from a genuine desire to connect, and she will benefit from continued positive reinforcement to help her develop polite greeting manners. Because she can jump up when excited, interactions with small children should be closely supervised to prevent accidental knocks.

On leash, Belladonna enjoys getting outside and is especially interested in the people she encounters along the way. She may pull toward friendly strangers when given the opportunity to say hello, and she can become quite excited when she spots other dogs. She may pull toward them and occasionally vocalize, showing that her excitement around other animals can be difficult for her to manage. She has met dogs at the shelter and has done best with gentle, socially savvy male dogs, but she can feel overwhelmed initially. Slow, intentional introductions will be important when determining whether she can comfortably share a home with another dog.

Belladonna has also seen a cat in her foster home, and those brief encounters have revealed a strong interest in feline friends. She has pulled toward the cat and vocalized, but the interactions have been kept short, so it is not yet clear whether her response is driven by. Her compatibility with cats remains undetermined, and she should not be assumed to be cat-friendly based on these limited interactions. Any future introductions would need to be carefully managed, gradual, and supervised, with safety and acclimation prioritized.

Belladonna is a smart girl who already knows "sit" and is working on learning "down." She enjoys spending time with her people and seems eager to participate in whatever is happening around her. With continued positive reinforcement, she can keep building her training skills, practicing calmer greetings, and learning to navigate exciting situations without feeling the need to rush toward everything she sees. A patient adopter who understands that enthusiasm and anxiety can sometimes go hand in hand will help her continue making progress.

More than anything, Belladonna wants a person or family who will appreciate her affectionate nature and give her plenty of opportunities to feel safe, loved, and included. She is a wonderful little mix of playful energy and serious snuggle potential, and she has already shown that she can enjoy new experiences when she has her person by her side. She will benefit from continued work on greeting manners, thoughtful management around other animals, and a gradual approach to alone time. In return, she promises plenty of cuddles, sleepy tail wags, and the kind of companionship that makes even an ordinary evening feel special.

Belladonna is currently in the comfort of a foster home. If you're interested in meeting this sweet girl, please complete an application and email dogfosters@barcs.org for next steps!
