Meet Kashh, a handsome, smart, and affectionate boy who is ready to find a family of his own! He came to BARCS through no fault of his own, and while he can be a little shy at first, his loving personality shines through once he settles in. At 57 pounds, Kashh is a wonderful combination of playful, well-mannered, and cuddly. He's happiest when he's close to his people and has a remarkable talent for squeezing himself into whatever space is available to get some extra affection. Once he feels at home, you'll discover a sweet companion who loves the simple pleasures of life.
Kashh has been thriving in his foster home and is an excellent houseguest. He's doing wonderfully with housetraining and has had no accidents in his foster home. He also does well when left alone. He may bark for a few minutes after his people leave, but he settles down and sleeps until they return. At home, Kashh is generally calm and relaxed, happily spending his time chewing on a favorite bone, enjoying a walk, or snuggling as close as possible to his humans. He's the kind of dog who can enjoy an outing with you and then happily switch into relaxation mode once you're back home.
This clever boy has some lovely household manners and is motivated by food, making positive reinforcement a great way to continue building his skills. He knows "sit" and has learned to wait patiently for permission before eating, sits nicely while his harness is put on, and waits for the okay before heading out the door. He's also been working on "leave it," and his progress has been especially encouraging. Kashh benefits from consistency and clear guidance, and continuing to practice these skills will help him navigate everyday situations with confidence.
Kashh enjoys his regular walks and has made steady progress with his leash skills. He's generally comfortable passing other people and dogs, remaining unbothered about 85% of the time, although he can occasionally become overly excited and need help redirecting his attention. His foster has been working with him on "leave it," and he's made excellent progress with his interest in birds, now able to walk past them without getting worked up. Squirrels are still a work in progress, but he's learning! With continued positive reinforcement and practice in different environments, Kashh can keep developing the calm walking habits he's been working so hard on.
Kashh is an enthusiastic fan of people and can get especially excited when visitors arrive or when he hears someone outside the front door. He may bark persistently and jump up or bump people with his head while trying to say hello. His foster family is working on greeting him only once he's settled, and he'll benefit from adopters who can continue helping him practice calmer introductions. He has experience around children ranging from 1 to 12 years old, according to his former family, but greetings should be managed carefully and interactions with children supervised, especially while he's learning to keep all four paws on the floor. A home willing to help him develop polite visitor manners will set him up for success.
Kashh has experience living with another dog and has also interacted with dogs at BARCS. He does best with polite canine companions, and any potential dog siblings should meet him to make sure everyone is comfortable together. Information about his experience with cats is not currently available. Overall, Kashh is a calm, relaxed companion at home who loves walks, bones, and snuggling with his favorite people. He's continuing to learn how to manage his excitement around visitors and outdoor distractions, but his progress so far shows what a capable student he can be. Kashh is currently enjoying the comfort of a foster home and hoping to find a family who will appreciate his affectionate nature, celebrate his progress, and give him a cozy place to call his own.
