Amarantha is a sweet, fun-loving 1-year-old, 50-pound beauty with a playful spirit and a big heart. She has a soft, affectionate side that really shines once she feels comfortable, and she absolutely loves being close to her people.
Amarantha has been out on several Dog's Day Out adventures, including visits to Towson University and trips to a local park. A volunteer noted that she definitely has spunk! She loves playing fetch, happily chasing after sticks, and staying active during her outings. Amarantha was described as very sweet and does well meeting new people while out and about. Her favorite part of the day, though, is getting plenty of cuddles and affection from the people she meets.
She spent some time in a short term foster home and Amarantha was a wonderful mix of cuddle bug and energetic goofball. She enjoys tug-of-war, squeaky and crinkle toys, zoomies in the yard, and soaking up the sunshine. She especially loves squeakers and crinkle toys-and if you're up for a game, she's always ready. After playtime, she's happiest curled up next to her person on the couch watching TV. She may need a little boost to get onto the bed, but once she's up, she's all about snuggles.
Amarantha is housebroken with a solid routine. She goes out in the morning and evening and has had no accidents. Occasionally she needs a little redirection, but she's doing well and understands the expectation. She is crate trained and knows she needs to go in when asked. While she may whine at first because she prefers being with her people, she eventually settles and falls asleep.
On leash, Amarantha loves her walks and is making significant progress. She can be strong and will pull at times, but she's responsive to redirection. She does react to squirrels, other dogs, and sometimes people, but with guidance her foster simply redirects or changes direction and she recovers well. Continued positive training will help her keep building those skills.
Amarantha has met people and did very well at an adoption event at the Petco - Timonium. She was able to lay and sit nicely in the grass while being greeted and pet. She can be jumpy and a bit mouthy when excited, without preference to gender, so she would likely do best in a home with older children who can handle her strength and enthusiasm while she continues learning polite greetings.
In her foster home, she has shown playful curiosity with the resident cats. Her play style with the cats includes a bit of chasing, so she would do best in a home with dog-savvy cats that are comfortable with this. She has met other dogs at BARCS Animal Shelter and does best with gentle canine companions. Any resident dog should meet her first to ensure a good fit.
Amarantha is smart and eager to learn. She knows "sit," "down," and is working on "paw." She responds beautifully to patience, treats, and clear redirection. At times, she may shake when feeling stressed, but she does best with reassurance and structure. She bonds deeply with her people and truly thrives on companionship. With moderate energy and a love for running and zoomies, she would greatly benefit from a fenced yard where she can stretch her legs.
Come down to BARCS and meet Amarantha!
I'm a VIP because I'm still learning, and the shelter can be a tough place for dogs like me to shine. But I've got a whole team cheering me on!
Here are a few things the staff and volunteers are helping me with:
· Learning to make the right dog friends at the right pace
· Learning that the world isn't so scary
· Keeping my paws on the ground and learning polite ways to show I'm excited
If you're patient and open-hearted, I could be your best friend. I'm available for adoption! During the adoption process, a staff member can walk you through what's been working for me and how you can keep the progress going at home.
