Meet Teenie - a soft-eyed sweetheart with a heart full of love and the gentlest soul! At 48 pounds, she's a wonderful medium-sized companion who thrives on human connection. This affectionate girl bonds quickly with her people and loves following them from room to room, checking in for a head scratch or simply seeing what they're up to. Snuggling is her specialty, and she's happiest when she can curl up near her favorite humans. After a stressful time at the shelter, Teenie has been settling into her foster home and coming out of her shell more each day as she grows comfortable with her new routine.
Teenie has lovely manners around the house and is doing wonderfully with housetraining, with no accidents reported this week. She's also comfortable in her crate, where she may whine for a few minutes when left alone before settling down for a nap. Once she realizes everything is okay, she's happy to snooze while you take care of your daily responsibilities. She has a medium energy level, balancing playful moments with plenty of lounging and relaxing.
This sweet girl is a fantastic walking companion! She walks beautifully on leash without pulling and is generally calm when passing other dogs and people. Squirrels can catch her attention, and she sometimes shows interest in other dogs, but she's easily redirected with a cheerful "leave it." Teenie enjoys getting out for neighborhood walks and exploring the world alongside her person. She can startle at sudden, loud noises, such as a passing bus or a slamming car door, but she's becoming more confident with repeated exposure and practice. A patient family who lets her adjust at her own pace will help her continue to blossom.
Teenie is friendly and polite when meeting new people. She's encountered plenty of adults and children around the neighborhood and has greeted everyone nicely. She previously interacted well with a 10-year-old child, and her foster reports that she enjoys being around people without becoming overly excited. Whether you're out for a walk or introducing her to new friends, Teenie is a sweet girl who wants to be part of the action and check in with her people along the way.
Teenie also has experience playing with a dog friend! During a previous foster stay, she enjoyed friendly, respectful play sessions with her canine foster sibling and responded well to his cues. She prefers the company of gentle, respectful dog friends. She requests to meet any potential canine roommates to ensure they're a good match.
Smart and eager to learn, Teenie already knows an impressive collection of cues, including "sit," "down," "wait," "paw," "drop it," and "leave it." She also responds to car-related cues like "up car" and "down car," and understands "get a toy." This clever girl enjoys training and enrichment, and she's happy to bring you a toy when she's ready to play. Balls, stuffies, and rope toys are among her favorites, and tug and fetch are excellent ways to bring out her playful side. She loves initiating games with her people, but she's just as content to settle down afterward for a well-earned nap.
As she continues adjusting to life outside the shelter, Teenie is showing what a loving, social, and well-mannered companion she can be. She would thrive with a family willing to offer her a predictable routine, gentle encouragement, and continued opportunities to build confidence.
Teenie is currently enjoying the comfort of a foster home, where she's learning that the world can be a safe and happy place. If you're looking for a devoted companion who will greet you with a toy, join you for walks, and happily curl up beside you at the end of the day, Teenie may be your girl! If you're interested in meeting her, please complete an adoption application and email dogfosters@barcs.org for next steps!
