Basenji is a sweet, curious pup who's already showing us he has great potential. With a wide smile and a happy-go-lucky attitude, he brings a gentle, calm presence to every walk.
He walks well on leash, keeping a steady pace while his nose stays busy taking in all the scents along the way. Basenji seems to really enjoy his walks-there are lots of sniffs, tail wags, and quiet moments of curiosity as he explores his surroundings. He's also very responsive to the sound of his walker's voice and appears to be food motivated, making training sessions a promising opportunity. This gentle guy knows "sit," takes treats softly, and appears to be housebroken. While he can startle a bit at sudden movements or loud noises, his overall demeanor is calm and observant.
Basenji is a quiet, thoughtful companion who would thrive in a calm home where he can continue building confidence and enjoying the simple pleasures of life-like a good sniff walk and a soft bed.
Basenji has met other dogs at the shelter, he does best with tolerant and socially savvy friends. He will need to meet any potential doggie roommates to make sure they are a good match. He is eligible to come back to BARCS for social sessions.
Basenji is currently in a foster home. If you would like to meet him, please complete an application and email dogfosters@barcs.org for next steps.
