Meet Cola! This sweet, sensitive 1-year-old girl is a snuggly bundle of love once she feels safe and comfortable. Cola came to BARCS through no fault of her own, and while she was shy and uncertain in the shelter environment, she's been blossoming in her foster home-earning nicknames like "Colala" and stealing hearts with her soft nature and cuddly spirit.
Cola is the kind of dog who thrives on connection. Once she trusts you, she wants to be as close as possible-pressed up against your side, curled in your lap, or nuzzled under your arm. She wakes up each morning with the sweetest smile and a happy tail wag, excited to greet the day with her favorite humans. She'll do little happy hops when she sees you getting ready to head out and will stick close for snuggles and reassurance whenever she needs a moment to regroup.
Though she's still learning the ropes of the world, Cola is already showing just how clever and capable she is. She's highly food motivated and loves working on new tricks and puzzles-she especially enjoys her food-stuffed toys and learning through play. She's crate trained and potty trained (as long as she's taken out regularly), and she's respectful and gentle around the home. Cola's energy level is moderate-about a 5 out of 10. She'll happily nap with you for hours, but when she gets the zoomies, she'll trot around the house, looking for a little playtime or attention.
Out on walks, Cola can be hesitant in new environments and will let you know when she's had enough. She's not reactive and walks politely on leash, but she may prefer to stay close to home or stick to familiar routes until she gains confidence. Cola has expressive body language and is great at communicating her needs-especially when she's overwhelmed. She can get scared by people carrying umbrellas or large objects overhead and may panic if she feels threatened. When this happens, she does best if gently guided to safety without pressure.
Cola has shown calm interest in other dogs and seems to do best with gentle, quiet companions. She's met a few pups at BARCS and responded with neutrality and curiosity. She requests to meet any resident dogs to ensure they're a good match.
Her ideal home would be one that's calm, patient, and full of affection. She seems happiest when she has more than one person around to love on her-more hands for head scratches and belly rubs! Cola is incredibly intuitive and seems to understand boundaries instinctively, making her a joy to have around the house. With continued confidence building, a regular routine, and lots of love, this shy girl will truly shine.
If you're looking for a smart, affectionate, and deeply loyal companion who will reward your patience with endless love, Cola may be the perfect pup for you. She's currently in a foster home-if you'd like to learn more or schedule a meet-and-greet, please email dogfosters@barcs.org to be connected with her foster family.
