Meet Jillian - Brave, Bouncy, and Healing with Heart
This sweet 9-month-old pup has already faced more than most dogs do in a lifetime. Jillian came to BARCS after being hit by a car, suffering a broken leg. Thanks to the quick action of the BARCS team and one of our amazing veterinary partners, she underwent surgery on April 22 to save her leg-and now she's on the road to recovery.
Two weeks post-surgery, Jillian is officially cone-free and allowed out of her crate for short 10-minute intervals. Her next milestone is her 4-week checkup, and while her progress has been promising, the most important part of her recovery is still ahead.
Crate rest is critical for Jillian right now. Her only other option was amputation, so this surgery gave her the chance to keep her leg-but only if it heals properly. She'll need about 10 more weeks of restricted activity, which means lots of crate time and a calm environment.
It's not easy for a young, curious pup to stay still, but Jillian is being such a trooper. Her foster mom has come up with plenty of enrichment ideas to keep her mind busy, though Jillian still hasn't quite grasped the importance of rest. When she does come out of her crate, she's wiggly, sweet, and full of love-so grateful just to be near her humans.
She's still unsure about the resident dogs, and due to her limited mobility, she hasn't had much interaction with them yet. Right now, what Jillian needs most is a peaceful, supportive home and someone who's ready to help her heal, both physically and emotionally.
Jillian has follow-up appointments every two weeks and is looking for an adopter who's fully committed to seeing her through this recovery journey. With time, love, and proper care, this brave girl has an incredibly bright future ahead.
