Yangtze is a gentle soul and an adventurous spirit. Though technically a senior, you'd never guess it from his energy-he's always ready for a walk, a game of fetch, or a new place to explore. His joyful outlook on life is contagious, and his affectionate personality makes him an instant favorite with everyone he meets.
Currently thriving in a foster home, Yangtze has proven to be an absolute joy to live with. His foster reports that he is well-mannered, quiet in the home, and incredibly loving. He's fully house-trained and crate-trained, and he even chooses to nap or sleep in his crate at times, showing how comfortable and secure he feels. When left alone during the day, he's calm and content, happily snoozing until his people return-no separation anxiety here!
Yangtze is also quite the polite houseguest. He knows his commands like *sit* and *down* and will patiently wait for the "okay" before eating his meals. He's very treat-motivated and loves to show off his obedience skills, often offering extra behaviors just to impress you. His leash skills continue to improve with practice, and he walks calmly, rarely reacting to dogs or distractions along the way.
His foster has nothing but glowing things to say about his temperament: he's affectionate without being clingy, eager to please, and has just the right mix of playful energy and laid-back charm. Whether he's chasing a ball in the yard, napping at your feet, or greeting kids with a wagging tail during a walk, Yangtze takes life in stride with a happy, gentle demeanor.
Though he's met other dogs at BARCS, Yangtze prefers to take things slow when it comes to canine companions. He's not reactive on walks, but he'll need a meet-and-greet with any potential doggie roommates to make sure it's a good fit. After adoption, he's also eligible to return to BARCS for continued dog socialization through structured playgroups and sessions.
Yangtze also went on a "Dogs Day Out" adventure to the Inner Harbor, and his chaperone described him as a total gentleman. He enjoyed the sunny stroll, showed off his great leash manners, and charmed everyone he met along the way.
If you're looking for a loving, loyal companion who's equal parts cuddle buddy and walking partner, Yangtze might be your perfect match. He's ready to bring joy, warmth, and steady companionship to a lucky family. To meet him, please submit an application and email dogfosters@barcs.org to schedule your meet-and-greet.
