Meet Chillax! This sweet 46-pound boy is smart, affectionate, attentive, and seems genuinely excited to spend time with his people. Chillax comes out of his kennel with enthusiasm, ready to see what the day has in store! Once he gets going, he walks very nicely and is responsive to his handler. He loves leisurely trail walks where he can take his time sniffing all the interesting smells along the way. He also remains calm around dogs while out and about.
Speaking of trail walks, Chillax enjoyed a Dog's Day Out hiking adventure with a volunteer and this sweet boy was just excellent! He jumped right into the car and was excited about the busy box waiting for him in the back seat. Though he wasn't afraid to forage around in search of more treats, he settled into the ride after a few minutes and was a polite passenger.
On is hike, he was easy-breezy on leash. He explored a bit initially, but preferred to stay close to his friend for most of the walk. He saw one hiker and one jogger and he was very easy to redirect playing the "engage, disengage" game - he nailed it! He's very food-motivated and smart, perfect for someone who likes training, especially if they get his brain working a bit harder by asking him to "sit" or "wait" before delivering the goods.
When they took a couple water breaks, he did his sweet little lean-in calm moments, he is a gentle boy who just wants to be close with his person, a perfect snuggle partner as we say goodbye to summer and head into hoodie season! After his hike, Chillax was sweet and calm when workers approached in close proximity in the drive thru. He curled into a sweet little ball and took a nap for the rest of the drive until they got back to the shelter.
On another outing, he was such a good boy that his volunteer friend invited him home to hang out. He didn't have a single accident in the house and went potty outside several times. He is SMART and incredibly food motivated. Chillax LOVES bones and anything he can chew on, and he thoroughly enjoyed a bully stick.
The resident cat was sitting at the top of the steps when he came inside. Chillax definitely noticed him, but his interest seemed curious rather than fixated. He quickly forgot the cat existed and went on to explore the apartment. He did like to follow his friend around, but after he settled in he was content to spend time entertaining himself on his own. He can be endearingly clumsy like a gangle puppy, and has the SWEETEST puppy-dog eyes. He would peek up at his friend from underneath the desk to say , "Excuse me... are you done working yet? Eventually, he found several different spots around the apartment where he could curl up and nap. Chillax sat at the window for quite a while just watching the world go by. He also LOVES being brushed!
When it was time for his friend to pick up her daughter from school, Chillax lit up when he saw the kids being dismissed. He gave her kisses, sat right beside her, and eventually stretched himself across her lap and fell asleep. What a sweet boy!
This boy has brains, too! Chillax already knows "sit," and "touch." He is food motivated, attentive, and seems to really enjoy learning and working with his person. He likes playing "find it" with kibble or treats. Chillax has a blast working on the agility equipment. Training with this smart pup could be a wonderful way to bond and have some fun together.
Chillax would need to meet any doggie roommates to make sure they are a good match. He prefers gentle and polite pals.
MVP Up to Bat! I'm a BARCS MVP because sometimes when I'm really excited, I can chew on my leash, and other dogs can be a distraction on walks. I like to pick my pup friends carefully, and sharing isn't always my strong suit. I do best with gentle, polite pals, and I'll need to meet any potential doggie roommate first to make sure we click! Please come down to the shelter to get to know me better! I can't wait to meet you.
Every animal deserves a home run! BARCS MVPs are overlooked pets in the shelter. Thanks to the generous support of the Alonso, Basallo, and Bradish Baltimore Orioles families, all MVP animals have waived adoption fees AND will go home with a brand new leash and collar or cat carrier.
