Meet Max! This lovable 7-year-old gentleman has a heart as big as his signature smushy face. With his adorable bottom-tooth smile, affectionate personality, and unwavering devotion to his people, Max is the kind of dog who quickly becomes the center of the family. Whether he's joining you for a walk, riding along on errands, or curling up on the couch for a movie night, Max is happiest simply being by your side.
Max is spending some time in a foster home, where he has proven himself to be a wonderful companion. He is fully housetrained, has lovely house manners, and settles comfortably into a home routine. His foster describes him as a true velcro dog who loves following his people from room to room, always wanting to stay close and be involved in whatever they're doing. Whether he's lounging nearby while you work, relaxing on the couch, or supervising household chores, Max is happiest when he's with his favorite humans.
Affection is one of Max's favorite things in the world. He absolutely loves snuggling and will happily climb onto the couch beside you whenever given the chance. His gentle, people-oriented personality shines wherever he goes. He's been wonderful with everyone he's met, including people at a recent event, where he greeted everyone happily. Max also has experience with children and has proven himself to be a gentle, respectful companion. His foster says he's an absolute angel, and it's easy to see why he makes such a wonderful impression on the people he meets.
Max is a smart, food-motivated dog who enjoys learning new things. He knows "sit," "down," "wait," and "go lay down," and he's been working on "look," which he picks up quickly. He's also made excellent progress with polite door manners and no longer rushes through doorways like he once did. His foster incorporates training into their daily routine, and Max genuinely enjoys learning, especially when treats and praise are involved.
One of Max's favorite activities is getting out and exploring with his people. Daily walks through the park are a highlight of his routine, and he's a pretty chill companion who enjoys taking in the world by your side. On leash, Max does well overall, though he may pull toward people, dogs, or squirrels when he's excited. He has made steady progress with consistent guidance and positive reinforcement and enjoys being out and about with his people.
Max has also shown that he's a great companion for adventures beyond the neighborhood. He recently attended an event and did wonderfully around the people there. He's also comfortable spending time with other foster dogs while his foster is away, though he would prefer to be the only dog in his future home.
One area where Max is still building confidence is being left alone. Because he forms such deep bonds with his people, separation can be challenging for him. He may be vocal and pace for a while when left alone, though he does settle down intermittently and happily works on a stuffed Kong. His foster recently noticed an increase in pacing and vocalizing after a medication change, so they're continuing to monitor him. Max will do best with adopters who understand his attachment to his people and are willing to continue helping him feel safe and confident when they're apart.
Max's favorite rewards include chew toys, and he's always happy to settle in with something satisfying to work on. Despite enjoying his daily adventures, he's a fairly low-key guy overall, with a moderate, typical energy level. After spending time with his people, he's more than happy to settle in for a quiet evening full of snuggles.
Max is affectionate, devoted, eager to learn, and deeply connected to the people he loves. He wants to be included in everyday life, whether that's joining you for a morning walk, relaxing at the park, meeting new friends, practicing a few training games, or curling up beside you at the end of the day.
