Oran came to BARCS as a stray, and the good Samaritan who found him described him as friendly and easy to handle. This happy boy walks well on the leash, is quick to show off his awesome "sit," and loves treats. Oran enjoys sitting on the bench with you and enjoying all the pets, just calm and content to chill together. He also appears to be housebroken here at the shelter.
On Saturday, a volunteer had the pleasure of taking this block-headed sweetheart on a Dog's Day Out-and he quickly proved that there's much more to him than meets the eye.
With the summer heat in full swing, Oran and his companion headed to Patapsco State Park, where shady trails and cool river water made for the perfect hiking escape. While he might seem high-energy in the kennel, Oran is actually a "stop and smell the roses" kind of dog. Over the course of a relaxed four-mile walk, he happily sniffed all the good smells, splashed in the river, and leaned in for plenty of head scratches. Oran walked beautifully on the leash-staying close to his handler and regularly checking in. His leash skills are outstanding, making him a dream walking partner. He was calm and non-reactive around cars and bikes (though a passing cyclist did give him a brief spook), and he greeted hikers on the trail with a friendly demeanor. Oran is also highly food-motivated, which makes continued training a breeze. Oran already knows sit and takes treats gently, he is eager to learn more tricks!
Outside the shelter, Oran's true personality shines. If you're looking for a loyal, easygoing, and affectionate companion, Oran just might be your perfect match. Come meet him at BARCS-his blocky head and sweet spirit are sure to win you over.
Oran has met other dogs at the shelter, he would do best as your one and only dog at home. He is eligible to come back to BARCS for social sessions to learn how to play with other dogs.
Come down to BARCS and meet Oran.
