Mariposa is a 7-year-old sweetheart who came to BARCS as a stray, but it didn't take long for everyone to realize what a gem she is. Her finder described her as very friendly, easy to handle, and great with their children. From the moment she arrived, Mariposa has been charming everyone with her warm personality, gentle nature, and constant wiggles.
Once outside, Mariposa's signature waddle kicks into high gear-she's so excited to explore the world around her! She walks beautifully on leash and brings a joyful, lighthearted energy to every step. At the shelter, she's also shown that she knows "sit," loves treats, and appears to be housetrained. Whether she's on a stroll or lounging nearby, she's just happy to be with her people.
Mariposa has been spending time in a foster home, where she's continued to impress. Her foster describes her as incredibly sweet, gentle, and an absolute joy to have around. She's been non-reactive to both cats and dogs seen through gates in the home, and is proving to be a respectful, easy houseguest. Mariposa enjoys quietly relaxing and politely observing her surroundings, always with a calm and loving presence.
She's also non-reactive to city noises, enjoys car rides, and is leash trained-making her a great match for someone looking for a well-mannered companion in an urban environment. Whether she's tagging along for an errand or just riding shotgun for fun, Mariposa is always happy to be included.
Mariposa has met other dogs at the shelter and has shown a friendly, social, and even playful side. She'd likely enjoy the company of another calm and respectful pup or would be just as content as the only dog soaking up all the love. She's flexible, affectionate, and focused on connection. Her ideal home would include someone who works from home or has a flexible schedule-Mariposa thrives with companionship and would love to have her people close by.
With her sweet personality and happy spirit, Mariposa is ready to leave her stray days behind and find a forever family to love her as much as she deserves. She's currently in the comfort of a foster home-if you'd like to learn more or set up a meet-and-greet, please complete an application and email dogfosters@barcs.org to be connected with her foster family.
