Smiley is an 8-month-old sweetheart who truly lives up to her name-always cheerful, always ready to make a new friend, and always flashing her signature grin. She recently went on an adventure to PetSmart where she showed just how well she handles crowds and new experiences. Calm and curious in the aisles, Smiley happily greeted strangers, soaking up affection and impressing people with her polite "sit" in exchange for treats. She loved being the center of attention and was all wiggles and tail wags during her impromptu meet-and-greets.
This smart girl is soaking up training like a sponge. She's mastered "sit" and "stay" and is doing great with "come" and "here." Her recall is strong, especially with encouragement and treats, and she walks nicely on leash most of the time. She does occasionally get distracted by people or animals-but not in a reactive way. A quick cue to "come" usually brings her focus right back to her person. Smiley is eager to please, food-motivated, and enjoys being part of the learning process.
At home, Smiley is still working on house training and crate training, but she's showing steady progress with structure and routine. Like many young pups, she just needs consistency and a little patience as she continues to learn. Her foster reports that she's becoming more reliable every day, and her positive attitude makes her a joy to work with.
Playtime is high on Smiley's priority list. She recently discovered a super tough toy at the store that she fell in love with-and though it didn't come home with her that day, her foster is saving up to surprise her with it as a Foster-versary gift. Smiley also doesn't mind wearing clothes or hats, which only adds to her adorable, photogenic charm. When she's not playing, she's curled up in your lap or stretched out for a good cuddle session-she's equal parts spunky and snuggly.
Though she's still a puppy, Smiley prefers shorter bursts of activity over long outings. A few short walks or backyard play sessions throughout the day are just her speed. She'd be happiest in a home with access to a secure outdoor space where she can sniff, explore, and enjoy the sunshine without tiring herself out too quickly.
Smiley has recovered well from her spay surgery and continues to blossom in foster care. She's not the biggest fan of car rides and may whine a bit, but with reassurance and a comfy spot, she's learning that travel isn't so bad. Her foster has noticed the occasional sneeze outdoors-possibly from all the sniffing-and like many puppies, she's got a few quirky sounds and smells (those farts!) that only add to her lovable personality.
She hasn't lived with other pets or kids in her current foster home, but she's shown friendly and tolerant behavior around other dogs at the shelter and during outings. She's social, people-oriented, and would thrive in a home that can offer her both affection and structure as she grows into her best self.
Smiley is currently enjoying the comfort of a foster home. If you're interested in meeting this joyful, affectionate pup and adding some smiles to your life, please complete an application and email dogfosters@barcs.org to be connected with her foster family.
