Papa Bear came to BARCS as a stray, but it's clear that he's ready to leave his unknown past behind and settle into a future filled with love, comfort, and companionship. Now thriving in a foster home, this sweet 8-year-old senior-affectionately called Buddy or Bear by his foster-has blossomed into the ultimate cuddle companion. His gentle, affectionate nature shines through in every interaction, and he's quickly won the hearts of everyone who's met him.

Cuddling is one of Papa Bear's greatest joys. The moment he's invited onto the couch, he does an adorable little nose-dive right into your side, snuggling in as close as possible. Once settled, he's happy to shower you with kisses-whether on your face, arms, or whatever part of you he can reach. His foster describes his sweet little habit of gently licking your arm as if convinced there's a hidden treat inside. If he can't be snuggled up against you, you'll often find him resting his head on the armrest or gazing lovingly at you, waiting for some pets and attention.

Papa Bear has wonderful house manners and is fully housebroken. When he needs to go outside, he patiently sits by the door and waits for his turn. He's also very polite at mealtime, sitting and waiting for his "okay" cue before eating, and he takes treats gently from your hand. There are no signs of resource guarding with food, toys, or people-just a consistently gentle and respectful demeanor.

Though Papa Bear has a mellow personality, he's also quite expressive in his own way. He's a bit of a talker, letting out soft little howls when you come home or when he's feeling especially happy. When left alone, he may bark or talk to himself a bit, but it's all part of his endearing charm. On walks, he can be a little excited at first and may pull slightly, but he quickly settles into a calm, steady pace and enjoys taking his time to sniff and explore his surroundings.

Papa Bear has also shown that he can get along well with other dogs. In his foster home, he enjoys following his dog friend around and trying to engage in gentle play.

While Papa Bear may be a bit reserved when first meeting new people, once he warms up, his loving, loyal nature truly shines. He isn't looking for a home filled with excitement or constant activity-he simply wants a quiet, stable home with someone who appreciates his gentle soul and enjoys sharing the couch. His ideal family will enjoy daily walks, cozy evenings, and plenty of head scratches and belly rubs.

Papa Bear qualifies for a waived adoption fee as part of BARCS' Love Lasts Forever adoption promotion for animals over 5 years old. If you're looking for a mellow, affectionate best friend who will remind you every single day how good it feels to be loved, Papa Bear is your guy. He's currently thriving in a foster home-if you'd like to meet him, please complete an application and email dogfosters@barcs.org to be connected with his foster family.
