Tomato came to the shelter due to no fault of her own. Her former family reports that she's happiest curled up on a dog bed or tucked into a cozy corner. This 48 pound good girl is house-trained, crate-trained, and spends her days lounging and her nights peacefully snoozing in her crate. Tomato has been around children (ages 8 and 10) and enjoys affection from them-though she can be a little too strong for them to handle on walks. She knows "sit," and is very treat motivated, staying so engaged for treats. Tomato would thrive in a home that offers consistency, patience, and gentle guidance.

Tomato recently had the chance to enjoy a Dogs Day Out adventure with some wonderful volunteers-and she made the most of every moment! Instead of a busy outing, she got to enjoy the best kind of break: quiet time in a loving home. She was a little shy at first, but it didn't take long before she was following the family everywhere and soaking up cuddles and belly rubs. Tomato appeared housetrained, knows "sit", and was more interested in food than toys (a girl after our own hearts). She also spent time with a 6- and 7-year-old child during her visit and did wonderfully-sweet, gentle, and loving the whole time.

Tomato showed us she's not only adorable but also adaptable, affectionate, and ready to find her forever family.

This loving, funny girl has been the perfect houseguest in her foster home-fully house-trained, quiet, gentle, and clearly used to living in a home. She adores people, especially her female foster, and follows her around like a loyal shadow. She's been great with kids, affectionate to the point of doling out happy kisses and the occasional nibble (which she's learning to tone down!). Her favorite things include fetch, tug toys, snuggling on soft pillows, and sleeping at the foot of your bed like a big, cuddly teddy bear.

Tomato is incredibly treat-motivated and already knows "sit" and "come," making her a great candidate for more training. While she's not a fan of walks right now-she gets scared and refuses to move-she thrives in a fenced-in yard where she can run and play. With a little patience and love, she'll blossom even more.

Tomato requests to meet any doggie roommates to make sure they are a good match. She does best with gentle dog pals. She is eligible to come back to BARCS for socials. She's currently thriving in a foster home, to learn more or schedule a time to meet Tomato, complete an application and email dogfosters@barcs.org.
