Meet Picasso - a true work of heart with a velvet-soft soul, a dashing smile, and a love for pets that's nothing short of masterpiece-level. This 5-year-old, 53-pound pup came to BARCS after being found wandering alone, in need of shelter and care. While the shelter can be overwhelming, Picasso remains sweet and soft-hearted, ready to share his love with someone special. When you meet Picasso you will quickly see his affectionate, gentle, and clever personality shine through. He's the kind of dog who'll lean into your hand for more pets and stay close once he feels safe, soaking up every bit of attention like it's magic. Picasso walks calmly and politely on leash, making him an easygoing companion for quiet strolls and slow-paced adventures. He's also housetrained at the shelter and already knows how to "sit"-a smart boy who loves earning treats and praise. He's eager to please and learns quickly, and is so proud of himself as he does. Picasso arrived at BARCS with dermatitis (a mild skin condition), but his skin and coat are improving by the day with a healthy diet and medication. We can't wait to see his glow up!
Picasso has become a fast favorite on his Dogs Day Out adventures, charming everyone he meets with his mix of playful energy and affectionate nature. He recently visited Kinder Farm Park, where he was especially excited to spot a pig! Volunteers described him as a lovebug, spunky, and energetic. He walked nicely on the leash, knew how to sit, and greeted everyone with a friendly attitude. He absolutely loves cuddles and isn't shy about asking for them. Picasso also enjoyed a trip to Chick-fil-A, a pup cup at Starbucks, and a peaceful walk around Fort McHenry. He rode like a pro in the car and especially loved riding up front where he could take in all the sights. On these outings, he showed his calm, happy side-content to cruise along and soak up the experience. He was even a polite shopper at Howl, Petco, and Dick's Sporting Goods.
At the Johns Hopkins campus, he walked for almost two hours before heading back to an apartment for a well-deserved nap. He did wonderfully hanging out on the patio of a café, eagerly meeting as many people as he could-earning himself the title of "total lovebug." If you sit down, Picasso will snuggle right into your lap without hesitation. Though he pulled a bit at the start of his outing, he quickly settled into a relaxed pace. Along the way, we learned that he loves stuffed animals, takes treats gently, and is a big fan of people-watching.
Picasso enjoyed visiting a coffee shop and lounging on a volunteer's front porch. He was described as chill and easygoing, calmly taking in the sights and sounds while out in public. Whether he's out exploring or relaxing at your side, Picasso is the perfect balance of adventure and affection. He's social, sweet, and ready to find a home where he can share all the love he has to give.
Picasso recently enjoyed a sleepover with a volunteer-and what a sweetheart he is! He's housebroken (not a single accident) and lets you know when he needs to go out. While he doesn't use a crate, he did great being loose in the home and was a respectful guest. He gets excited when it's time for a walk but quickly settles into a nice pace. During his overnight, Picasso explored Fort McHenry, visited the Korean War Memorial, made a stop at Petco, and ended the evening with a relaxed walk around the neighborhood. Once home, he curled up on the couch to watch TV-true cuddle bug status.
Picasso met lots of new people during his adventures and was a little shy at first but warmed up after a quick sniff and gladly accepted pets. He didn't meet any children during this visit but was curious and calm when watching ducks nearby. He absolutely loves ice cream, chasing balls, and playing with his stuffies-though those don't last long in his paws! Just keep an eye to make sure he doesn't try to eat them. Loud noises and new people can make him a bit timid at first, but once he feels comfortable, he shines. One of the most memorable moments from the sleepover? Watching Picasso rest his head sweetly on the armrest in the car-pure contentment. He's a loving, gentle companion who enjoys his walks just as much as his cuddle time. This adorable boy deserves a home of his own.
While Picasso has met other dogs at BARCS, he tends to feel uncomfortable around them, so he'd be happiest as your one and only furry friend. He is, however, eligible to return to BARCS for dog socialization sessions in the future if needed.
Picasso's adoption fees are waived through our "Love Lasts Forever" program, which helps wonderful pets like him find their forever homes. If you're looking for a calm, soulful companion who just needs a little patience and a lot of love, come meet Picasso at BARCS. He's more than ready to start his next chapter with someone who sees the masterpiece he truly is.
