Say hello to Norm! A Great Dane/Miniature Pony mix (ok, maybe not actually a Miniature Pony, but he's pretty darn close!). Norm is one of the biggest dogs that we have had here at the shelter, weighing in at 176 pounds! While Norm may be huge, his heart is too, and he is the sweetest boy. He loves attention and will paw at you to ask for more head scratches if you try and walk away. He is really an all around gentle giant and loves all people that he meets.
Norm came to us as a stray, and we waited day after day sure that someone had to be missing this big guy, but each day passed and Norm was still here. Unfortunately with Norm being a stray, we do not have any background information on him. We do believe he is housebroken though as he keeps his kennel here very clean and seems to get along with the other dogs. He also appears to know some basic commands, like sit and shake. Norm can be a little excitable when going for walks and does pull a bit on his leash, he seems to do well when corrected though, and an experienced owner should have no trouble correcting him on that.
We know that Norm will win over all people that come across him, but please keep in mind that he is a Giant breed and food itself will be pretty costly for this big fellow. Danes are also prone to hip issues, as well as other medical issues that increase with age.
