Hi there! I'm Smiley, a 34-pound Shepherd mix with a sweet and gentle heart! I can be a little shy and reserved when I first meet someone, so I like to take my time checking things out before I'm ready to fully engage. Once I'm comfortable, my personality starts to shine! I'm very treat motivated and will sit nicely when you have something tasty to offer. Give me a tennis ball, though, and you'll see my spunky side come out! I love chasing after it and will even entertain myself by playing with it. I also absolutely love affection and will happily sit beside you while you give me all the pets I can get. I'm a smart, active boy who would make a wonderful walking and adventure buddy for someone who enjoys getting out and exploring. I'm happiest when I have something to do, so I'll need a home that can keep my body and mind busy. I can become anxious when things are too quiet or when I feel overly confined, so having plenty of enrichment, exercise, training, and activities will be important for helping me stay happy and relaxed. I would especially benefit from a family who is home more often or someone who can check on me throughout the day. Keeping me mentally stimulated will help prevent me from becoming frustrated and focusing that energy on things I shouldn't, including rubbing my nose on my bowls when I'm bored or anxious. I'm a very sweet and loving boy who just needs the right person to give me patience, structure, and plenty of opportunities to explore, learn, and be your loyal companion!
My adoption fee of $225+tax covers the cost of my care and stay here at the humane society.
All Pennington County residents must also pay an additional $8 licensing fee at time of adoption.
