I'm Shilo, a 72-pound German Shepherd mix and a sweet old lady who is looking for a special home where I can enjoy both adventures and plenty of cozy naps. I can be a little independent when I first arrive somewhere new, but once I've had time to explore, settle in, and understand my surroundings, my affectionate side really starts to shine. I absolutely LOVE belly rubs and will happily roll over and let you rub my belly for what feels like hours! When I'm excited, you may see me prancing around with my front paws doing the cutest little tip-taps. I do enjoy treats, although I can get a little too excited about them, so gentle guidance and good treat-taking manners will be important for me. I also know my name, am generally very well mannered, and once I've finished checking everything out, I'm perfectly content to lay down, relax, and enjoy some quiet time. I would love a home that understands that I'm a senior lady who has a few boundaries and needs things done at my pace. My back hips seem to have some sensitivity, so keeping me comfortably moving without pushing me too far and avoiding pressure around my hips is best. Because of my boundaries and hip sensitivity, I would be happiest in a home without small children. I do best with slow introductions where you allow me to come to you rather than reaching for me before I'm ready. I'm still an adventurous girl at heart and would love a family who enjoys getting outside and exploring with me, but I'm just as happy coming home afterward to curl up on a cozy bed and relax. I may jump up when I'm excited, but underneath it all, I'm a very good girl who simply needs someone patient enough to let me settle in and discover just how wonderful life can be. I've got plenty of love and adventures left to give, and I'm hoping to spend my golden years in a quiet, comfortable, but still adventurous home of my very own!
My adoption fee of $225+tax covers the cost of my care and stay here at the humane society.
All Pennington County residents must also pay an additional $8 licensing fee at time of adoption.
