Please meet Obsidian aka Obi! She was transferred from another shelter and is at A Dog's Tale LLC's training facility which has allowed her time to decompress and be evaluated, and complete her stay and train program to prepare her for adoption.
Obi has been working on becoming accustomed to a muzzle, a safety feature which will help during veterinary visits and when she's in situations she may be uncertain with. She is also working on feeling more comfortable meeting new people. Prior to training, Obi would bark at and avoid new people but with a predictable and safe greeting routine, she is making new friends and allowing new people into her circle.
Here's what Obsidian needs in a home:
- No children or cats.
- A patient adopter who understands they will have to conduct more than one meet and greet prior to Obi transitioning to their home. This will also allow them to learn about Obi's training routine and how to set her up for success when meeting new people.
- Continuation of her management and training recommendations to help her be her best self.
- An appropriate exercise and enrichment plan, she is a Border Collie after all! Obi enjoys sniffy walks, fetch, and food enrichment like stuffed Kongs and chew items. However, we have learned that Obi really excels in a home environment so we are not seeking a farm/outdoor home for her.
- Providing a safe space for Obsidian when guests or unfamiliar people arrive. This means allowing Obi to relax in her safe space when guests arrive and is an essential part of her training plan.
- Accommodating special needs vet care with a fear free certified clinic who uses low stress handling techniques, some pre-visit pharmaceuticals may be required. Obi is already established at Animal Hospital of Oshkosh who does a great job prioritizing low stress handling.
- Continuation of her current long-term behavior medication(s), Fluoxetine.
- The ability to evaluate other dogs to determine if Obsidian can interact with them safely, as she is dog selective. Obi has done well with dog's who are dog social, respectful, and non confrontational at A Dog's Tale LLC.
Obi lived in a foster home for six months and now in a home setting at A Dog's Tale, she loves to play fetch, she loves to walk and hike, and she's affectionate with people she's bonded with.
As part of her training program with A Dog's Tale LLC, Obi's adopters will receive a 90-minute transfer lesson and 60-minute follow up to assist with troubleshooting (at no cost to adopter). GLAAS will pay for up to a year of post adoption training support for Obi. Since continued training support will help set Obi and her adopters up for success, we are seeking an adopter in an approximate 60 mile radius from GLAAS/A Dog's Tale LLC.
If you think you might be interested in adopting Obi, please start the process by completing our online adoption application from our website. We'll be in touch to take the next steps!
