Meet Bailey, a charming dog who recently got a break from the shelter with a few of our volunteers. Bailey's field trip began with a stroll from the shelter toward downtown Roseville, encountering a bustling environment of cars, trucks, people, and general city sounds. Despite the new sights and noises, Bailey took it all in stride, remaining calm and collected. Her relaxed demeanor was evident in her wagging tail and upright ears. The walk continued onto Miner's Ravine Trail, a scenic path alongside a stream. We encountered a diverse mix of activity; people walking (many with dogs), bikers, joggers, geese, and ducks. She loves to investigate the environment for the latest smells! Throughout this, Bailey remained unfazed and displayed no aggression. Bailey prefers it when everyone walks together. She will wait for you if you lag behind. Often, she makes eye contact to "check in" and seems to respond better to verbal suggestion rather than leash pressure. Speaking of leashes, Bailey has excellent leash manners! She walked without pulling, content to follow along at a comfortable pace, easily directed by the group's movements. Remarkably, the entire trip was free of barking or whining. In fact, Bailey showered us with affection, readily offering friendly glances and interactions. Another trait that impressed us: Bailey's mastery of the "sit" command. She obeyed this request consistently, regardless of whether or not a treat was offered. This suggests that Bailey's eager to please and willing to learn.
Bailey has some chronic medical conditions that will likely require lifelong care. Because of this and her shy nature, we recommend that any children in her new home are age 10 or older so they can understand her needs. She may do well with other calm dogs in her new home after a slow introduction.
