Duke is a happy go lucky guy who is always ready for the next adventure. He arrived at the shelter in December 2023 and was adopted. But he was given up after only a few weeks because of landlord issues. His previous family wanted him to get a good home because they really loved him. He weighs about 30 pounds and will continue to grow and be bigger.

Since then, Duke has been at the shelter and in a foster home. In his foster home He lived with 2 other dogs (60lbs and 30lbs) and tried to play with them. He is crate trained and rarely barks. He is leash trained and well behaved on walks. He does get excited when he sees squirls and birds and may pull a bit. He had 3-4 walks a day and let outside regularly to play in the yard. He hasn't had any accidents outside of his cage in the house. He paces around and goes to the door when he needs to go out. Duke stayed in his crate overnight and when no one was home or could not watch him. Otherwise, he was in the room inside with people.

In his previous adopter's home Duke amazed his family with how fast he learned. They said he is already house trained and was allowed to have free roam of the house. In spite of being a puppy, he only got into trouble once at his adopter's home. He broke a picture frame and was very sorry.

He is active as well as calm and likes car rides, fetch, running, and toys. He can be a bit possessive of his food (with other dogs, not people). But he listens well when he is told to stay while preparing food. He takes treats gently from people and is improving with other dogs too. His foster mom feeds all 3 dogs treats together. Duke eats in his cage or in another room at mealtime. At the shelter he plays with other dogs in playgroups and can play rough. If you have another dog, you'll need to bring it to meet him to be sure they get along. He is easygoing, friendly, and playful with young children and has experience with children as young as 3 years old. His puppy energy and tendencies during play make him more suitable to older kids until he gets some more training under his belt. He'll need to live with kids at least six years old for now. He is affectionate and loves sitting on a lap and being petted. Please offer lovable Duke the home and family he needs. (wm, tw 5/7/2024)
