My name is BUSTER & I am a very special kind of dog. For starters, I'm a tan & black Malamute-Husky-Shepard. I came to MaxFund as a 9 month old stray, and on June 18 of 2024 I turn 2, so most of my life has been spent in a shelter environment, causing me to not be totally housed trained yet. I'm a Gemini, & like most Geminis I am impatient, curious & energetic. I don't like long walks on the beach, but I do like long walks around MaxFund!
MaxFund is all I have known, but I think I deserve more; I deserve a life in a home. Don't get me wrong, they take great care of me at MaxFund, but I know I have become a handful. My kennel is MY home, MY space, & everything in there is mine; the food, the treats, the toys, they are all mine and I will let you know they're mine if you try to take them! I am very confident in my space; it is when I get outside of my kennel that I become a bit fearful & timid. I don't like loud noises from sirens, big trucks or traffic. I hate people running by me or who are on scooters.
Because I came in as a stray at a young age and hadn't been properly cared for, I don't know yet how to walk on a leash very well. More importantly, I am very particular about who gets to walk me. Don't get me wrong, I have about 10 human friends at MaxFund, but I only let a few of them take me on walks (or should I say I take them on walks because I like to pull them down the street?). You gotta be strong to hang with me. It's not just about taking me on structured walks around the block, it's about working with me, teaching me, helping me understand how best to be good. I like to sit with my handler, and as they are helping me to stay calm by petting me, I like to watch the people and their dogs go by from a safe distance. This helps show I'm working on my manners. I also love showing off that I have finally learned the basics: Sit, Down, and Paw, but I love my treats the best!
Because you need to know, I'm not too fond of other dogs (though I do like watching the puppies and small dogs play with a fence between us), cats or small kids (they freak me out how small they are, & I think they smell like poo). Because I have trust issues, it would be best if it was just me and my owner, just the two of us, with plenty of space to run around & be active. Then, when we are done playing, I need my own space, both inside & under the stars. I told you I was a Gemini!
I understand if my challenges are too much to take on, but please consider me. I am very unhappy, and I just know there's someone out there who will take the time I need to make me the dog I want to be. Please consider asking MaxFund if maybe I can become your new best friend.
