Our Wonder Woman, Maya, came in to Heritage Humane Society after being found by local Animal Control wandering in the woods. She was found just in time because we're not sure how long she would have lasted out there in the elements and without food. Maya was loaded with intestinal parasites and so weak that she could barely walk. She was so thin that she had to be fed very small meals several times a day to keep her from getting sick. Maya needed fluids to get her hydration back to normal and quite a bit of deworming.
In a few weeks, Maya was feeling much better! She's gained over 10 pounds but still has a way to go until she's a healthy weight. Unfortunately, Maya is heartworm positive and will need that treated. She has gone from barely walking to leaping, running, and eating ravenously. She's definitely a staff and volunteer favorite, and we've all enjoyed watching her transformation! Maya is not quite ready to leave the building yet, but we are happy to start taking visitors and applications to help her find her future home!
