I'm Lester, and I've spent nearly 4 years at the shelter, watching other dogs go home. I've seen countless families walk through these doors and leave with someone else. I've wagged my tail until it thumped against the kennel wall. I've stood up tall, trying to look hopeful and ready for my turn. But then the moment passes. And the door closes again. It's hard not knowing why.
I love people - truly love them. I'm the kind of dog who lights up the second you come to see me. I would follow you from room to room just to keep you company. I'd rest my head on your knee after a long day and look at you like you're my whole world... because you would be.
There's just one thing to know about me: I prefer to be your one and only. Other animals aren't really my style. I like having my people all to myself. But give me a toy to toss, a yard to run in, or a sunny patch of grass to stretch out in, and I'm one happy boy. I love playing outside, proudly carrying my favorite toys around like treasures. And when the day winds down, I'm more than ready to curl up close and soak in every bit of affection you'll give.
That's the part that makes this hardest - I know how to love. I just haven't had someone choose me to love forever. After nearly four years of waiting...I hope it can finally be my turn.
Lester is about five years old and is waiting patiently at the shelter for a family to call his own. Meet-and-greet appointments are available for those who would like to spend time getting to know Lester first, and he would love nothing more than the chance to show you just how big his heart really is.
